For the second time in three seasons, the Houston Astros (CM created by Curtis Milbourn) are champions. Game #7 was a tight ballgame, with the lead going back and forth - until a dramatic 8th inning grand slam homerun by Aledmys Diaz off Minnesota reliever Sam Dyson. Neither starting pitcher lasted very long. Minnesota starter Michael Pineda lasted only 2-2/3 innings and gave up 3 runs in the top of the 3rd as Diaz singled, Josh Reddick hit a 2-run homer, George Springer doubled, and Michael Brantley singled to score Springer. Houston's 3-0 lead didn't last very long, and neither did Houston starter Zack Greinke. With 1 out in the bottom of the 4th, Greinke walked Max Kepler, gave up a 2-run homer to Miguel Sano, and then was tagged sor a solo homer by Nelson Cruz that tied the game at 3-3. In a pitcher's duel between Minnesota's Jake Odorizzi and Houston's Gerrit Cole, Minnesota prevails and forces a seventh game to determine the season's champion. Odorizzi pitched shutout ball for 7 innings, allowing just 6 hits, walking 1, and striking out 6, and Minnesota relievers Sergio Romo, Tyler Duffey, and Taylor Rogers combined to pitch 3 hitless innings, with Rogers getting the save. For the second time in the Championship Series, Houston's Gerrit Cole pitched a complete game but was still charged with the loss. Cole struck out 16 batters while walking just 1, and allowed 1 run on 8 hits. The only run of the game came in the bottom of the 2nd. After 4 relatively low-scoring games, the teams combined for 20 runs on 29 hits (including 14 runs in the last 2 innings!). But it was really not a close game - Minnesota led 9-1 heading into the bottom of the 8th inning. Each team scored 4 runs in the 8th and 3 runs in the 9th as Houston's late rally fell short. Minnesota was 8-for-19 with runners in scoring position, while Houston was 1-for-10 with runers in scoring position. Houston still leads the series, 3 games to 2, but Game #6 and Game #7 (if necessary) will be played in Minnesota. Minnesota starting pitcher Jose Berrios got the win, allowing just 1 run on 7 hits in 6-1/3 innings. Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander got the loss, giving up 5 runs on 9 hits in 5 innings. For the third game in a row that score was 4-3, and for the second game in a row Houston had a walkoff victory. This time the hero was George Springer, who won the game with a 10th inning homer off Minnesota reliever Sam Dyson. Houston now leads the series 3 games to 1 and is 1 victory away from their second league championship [Houston's previous championship came in Blue Sox Season #1, using the 2017 MLB rosters]. Houston took a 2-0 lead against Minnesota starter Kyle Gibson in the bottom of the 1st when George Springer singled, Michael Brantley tripled to score Springer, and Yordan Alvarez singled to score Brantley. Houston starter Wade Miley gave up a solo homer to Byron Buxton in the 3rd and a 2-run homer to Miguel Sano in the 4th, and Minnesota now had a 3-2 lead. Houston takes a 2-1 lead in the series on Yuli Gurriel's walkoff rbi single with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th. The Game #3 pitching matchup was Zack Greinke for Houston and Michael Pineda for Minnesota. Houston took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd as Yordan Alvarez was hit by a Pineda pitch, and Yuli Gurriel followed with a double that sent Alvarez to thirdbase. Carlos Correa grounded out, scoring Alvarez and moving Gurriel to thirdbase, and Gurriel scored Houston's second run on a sacrifice fly by Robinson Chirinos. In the top of the 6th, Greinke gave up 3 runs as Luis Arraez doubled, scored on a single by Max Kepler, and Nelson Cruz homered to put Minnesota up 3-2.
