Ryne Stanek was the opener, going 2 innings and giving up 1 run (a solo homer to Chicago rightfielder Robel Garcia). Trey Mancini's 2-run homer in the 5th off of Chicago starter Kyle Hendricks put the Blue Sox up 2-1, and an rbi double by Cesar Hernandez in the next inning made it 3-1 Blue Sox. Matt Strahm, who pitched 3 innings and would eventually be credited with the win for the Blue Sox, gave up a solo homer to Kyle Schwarber in the 6th to narrow the score to 3-2, but the Blue Sox added 2 more runs in the top of the 8th on consecutive sacrifice flies by Maikel Franco and Leury Garcia. In the bottom of the 8th, Blake Parker retired the side, and Hector Neris did the same in the 9th for the save. This game was scoreless until the 8th inning as both starters - Dylan Bundy for the Blue Sox and Jose Quintana for Chicago - pitched effectively. In the top of the 8th, the Blue Sox took the lead on Tim Anderson's 2-run homer off of Chicago reliever Steve Cishek. To lead off the bottom of the 9th, Addison Russell drew a walk against Blue Sox reliever Matt Strahm. That brought the tieing run to the plate. Strahm exited, and Blake Parker replaced him, facing David Bote. Bote hit a slow grounder towards firstbase.
