ReplyDeleteThanks, Greg. Winner will be announced on Thanksgiving morning.
ReplyDeleteUPDATE - The deadline to submit entries is 3 pm EST on Tuesday November 25.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving! The Blue Sox are thankful for the 36 members of the Strat-O-Matic community who submitted entries in the "Name the Mascot" contest. And the Blue Sox are also thankful for the four contest judges who sifted through the entries, each submitting a list of their top five entries.
ReplyDeleteThe votes have been tallied, and the winning entry is Statz, submitted by Greg Thurston of San Antonio.
Statz, a well-dressed blue fox who is an amazing intellect and expert baseball analyst, will be the official mascot of the Blue Sox. The Blue Sox are members of the United Federation of Baseball.
Thurston, age 62, has been playing Strat-O-Matic since 1977 and describes himself as "a huge Astros fan." Asked how he came up with the name Statz, he explained:
"Well, I know everyone who plays this game is really into stats and I thought it would be cute to spell it that way. It just sort of came to me. Sometimes I get creative inspiration."
Thurston wins two season tickets for the 2026 Blue Sox season, and will have the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch for the 2026 Blue Sox home opener. The contest was promoted on Facebook, Strat Fan Forum, the Blue Sox website, and also by email to members of the United Federation of Baseball (and also by email to members of ESSOM).
All those who submitted an entry will receive two tickets to a 2026 Blue Sox home game of their choice.
The entries submitted included the judges' second choice (Azul Blazer) and third choice (Turq).
