United Federation of Baseball League Championship Series, Game #7 - Atlanta 7, Houston 3 (13 minutes). The Braves and manager BILL SORENSON are the champions, and DANSBY SWANSON is the Post-Season MVP, as Matt Olson, Marcell Ozuna, and Swanson each homered off Houston starter Cristian Javier. Olson hit a 2-run homer in the 1st, Ozuna hit a solo homer in the 5th, and (in a matchup of regular season MVP vs. regular season Cy Young Award winner) Swanson hit a 2-run homer in the 6th. That gave the Braves a 5-0 lead, and knocked Javier (0-4 with a 5.24 ERA in the post-season) out of the game. Meanwhile, Braves starter Spencer Strider went 7 innings, allowing just 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 11 men. One of the hits Strider gave up was a solo homer by Yuli Gurriel in the bottom of the 6th. Darren O'Day took over for Spencer in the 8th, getting just 1 out and giving up 2 runs as Houston staged a bit of a rally. But the Braves called upon A.J. Minter, who struck out Yordan Alvarez and Jeremy Pena to cut the rally short. Minter went the rest of the way, holding Houston scoreless in the 9th. For the 6th season in a row, the #1 seed in the regular season did not prevail in the post-season. Swanson was named Post-Season MVP; he led all post-season batters with 15 hits, going 8-for-17 in the final 4 games of the League Championship Series. He hit .300 for the post-season with 4 homers, 6 rbis, and 6 runs scored. In the post-season, Swanson's on-base percentage was .364 and his slugging percentage was .560, for an OPS of .924. Swanson played errorless ball as the Braves shortstop in all 13 post-season games, participating in 10 double plays. Spencer Strider struck out 11 batters and Dansby Swanson went yard and had 2
RBI at Minute Maid Park where the Atlanta Braves beat the Houston Astros by
the score of 7 to 3.
Strider(2-0) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He gave up just 2 hits
and 5 walks in 7 innings improving his ERA from 1.98 to 1.74. Atlanta had 9
hits for the game and Houston had 5.
The losing pitcher was Cristian Javier(0-4). He served up 3 gopher balls in 5
innings. Strider didn't realize how many strikeouts he was racking up. When
told he had 11 he was obviously surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I
had a decent total, but I didn't think I had K'd that many. Say, that's
pretty good, isn't it?'
