Championship Series, Game #3 - Toronto 5, Tampa Bay 4
With a dramatic walkoff homer by Toronto secondbaseman Marcus Semien in the bottom of the 9th, Toronto (CM created by Rob Tomlinson) takes a 2 games to 1 lead over Tampa Bay (CM created by Jim Holland) in the Championship Series. The pitching matchup was Ryan Yarbrough for Tampa Bay and Steven Matz for Toronto. Tampa Bay took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Luplow. Toronto tied it up in the bottom of the 3rd when Lourdes Gurriel hit a solo homer, and they took a 2-1 lead when Teoscar Hernandez homered. In the bottom of the 6th, Reese McGuire led off with a single, and (after Collin McHugh replaced Yarbrough) moved to third on a single by Santiago Espinal. Espinal then stole second. McHugh retired the next two batters (George Springer and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.) on groundballs, but then Hernandez singled to score McGuire and Espinal, giving Toronto a 4-1 lead. In the top of the 7th, with Tim Mayza now on the mound for Toronto, Kevin Kiermaier led off with a triple and scored on a groundout by Luplow, narrowing Toronto’s lead to 4-2. In the top of the 8th, Adam Cimber replaced Mayza – and proceeded to give up a homerun to Mike Zunino. Cimber left the game, and was replaced by Jordan Romano, who immediately gave up a homer to Nelson Cruz. Those back-to-back Tampa Bay homers tied things up at 4-4. Romano would remain on the mound for Toronto the rest of the way. Likewise, McHugh would pitch the rest of the game for Tampa Bay. In the bottom of the 9th, Semien led off with the game-winning homer. Romano got the win, McHugh was charged with the loss. For Toronto, Hernandez was 3-for-4 with 3 rbis. The pitching matchup for Game #4 will be Alek Manoah for Toronto and Tyler Glasnow for Tampa Bay.
