Blue Sox Game #81 - Blue Sox 3, Mets 1 (14 minutes). Andrew Cashner pitched a great game (10 strikeouts, 3 hits, 2 walks in 8 innings) and won a pitchers' duel against Mets starter Jacob DeGrom. DeGrom also pitched well and also struck out 10 men in 8 innings, but gave up 2 runs while Cashner only gave up 1 run. The Mets scored first and took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by Michael Conforto in the bottom of the 1st. In the top of the 4th, Trey Mancini singled with 1 out, advanced to thirdbase on a single by Cesar Hernandez, and then scored on a wild pitch by DeGrom. That tied the game 1-1, and in the top of the 6th Mancini hit a solo homer to break the tie and put the Blue Sox up 2-1. Mancini wound up going 3-for-4. Tensions between the clubs remained high, as the Blue Sox did not forget that two of their players had been hit by a pitch and injured earlier in the series. Perhaps by coincidence, Cashner hit Mets leftfielder Jeff McNeil in the 1st inning, and in the 3rd inning, and again in the 8th inning (and McNeil will miss the Mets' next 3 games). In the bottom of the 9th, Robinson Cano led off with a single - only the third hit allowed by Cashner. Blue Sox manager Dave Bristol then called upon Ryne Stanek to close it out, and Stanek got the save.

(NL) hitters. He gave up just 3 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings lowering his

Cashner got help from Ryne Stanek who earned his 1st save. The loss was
charged to Jacob Degrom(10-4). He pitched 8 innings allowing 7 hits and 2

Cashner was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little
odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a
running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just
strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'
