Blue Sox Game #79 - Mets 6, Blue Sox 2 (20 minutes). The Blue Sox not only lost the game, but they lost three players to injury in this game. Ryne Stanek was the opener for the Blue Sox, but the strategy didn't work this time. Steven Matz pitched 7 innings en route to gaining the victory for the Mets, allowing just 1 run - and that scored from thirdbase on a groundball doubleplay in the top of the 2nd. The Mets tied it up in the bottom of the 2nd when, with Blake Parker on the mound for the Blue Sox, a groundout by Jeff McNeil scored a runner from third. Pete Alonso homered off Parker in the 3rd to put the Mets up 2-1. In the top of the 4th, Matz hit Blue Sox leftfielder Jose Peraza with a pitch; Peraza will be out for the next 10 games. In the same inning, Blue Sox catcher Welington Castillo was injured while striking out; he will miss the next game. And Mets thirdbaseman J.D. Davis hit a 2-run homer off Juan Nicasio in the 5th to give the Mets a 4-1 lead. In the top of the 6th, Matz faced J.B. Shuck, who had replaced Peraza. Sure enough, Matz hit Shuck with a pitch, and Shuck will miss tomorrow's game. The Blue Sox now have four men injured - the three who were injured in this game join Tim Anderson on the disabled list. In the bottom of the 6th, McNeil (who wound up going 3-for-5) doubled in a run to put the Mets up 5-1. Seth Lugo pitched the 8th and 9th innings for the Mets, and he gave up a homer to Maikel Franco in the top of the 8th. But the Mets answered back in the bottom of the 8th with an rbi single by Joe Panik. The Blue Sox, thanks to all the injuries, used all available position players. Matz got the win, Parker got the loss.
