Blue Sox Game #66 - Colorado 10, Blue Sox 8 (25 minutes). Nolan Arenado starred again, hitting a 3-run homer in the 6th and breaking an 8-8 tie with an rbi single in the bottom of the 8th. The Blue Sox hit 4 homeruns in this game, but also committed 4 errors. All 4 errors were costly, leading to 3 unearned runs for Colorado. In the bottom of the 2nd, Colorado scored first when, with 2 outs Ian Desmond doubled off Blue Sox starter Dylan Bundy. Next, Tony Wolters doubled to rightfield, scoring Desmond, and Blue Sox rightfielder Leury Garcia misplayed the ball. Wolters came all the way around to score, and Colorado led 2-0. In the bottom of the 3rd, Trevor Story led off by hitting a grounder that was bobbled by Blue Sox shortstop Tim Anderson. Story ended up on secondbase. The nex batter, Arenado, flew out to left for out number 1. Story then stole third, and Welington Castillo's throw went into the outfield, allowing Story to score and giving Colorado a 3-0 lead. In the top of the 4th, Blue Sox secondbaseman Cesar Hernandez hit a solo homer to narrow Colorado's lead to 3-1, and in the top of the 5th, the Blue Sox scored 3 more runs on a solo homer by Castillo and 2-run homer by Danny Santana. The Blue Sox now led 4-3, but in the bottom of the 5th, a 2-run single by Desmond knocked Bundy out of the game and put Colorado back on top 5-4. In the top of the 6th, Colorado starter German Marquez gave up a solo homer to Hernandez. That was Hernandez's second homer of the game, and the fourth homer of the game for the Blue Sox. The score was now tied 5-5, and Marquez would eventually leave the game after 5-2/3 innings. In the bottom of the 6th, Colorado went up 8-5 when Arenado hit a 3-run homer off Blue Sox reliever Blake Parker. But the game was not over yet! In the top of the 7th, and rbi single by Hernandez (his 3rd rbi of the game) reduced Colorado's lead to 8-6. And in the top of the 8th, Blue Sox pinch-hitter Nick Ahmed's rbi single chased Colorado reliever Jairo Diaz and narrowed the score to 8-7. Later in the inning, a bases-loaded balk by Jake McGee allowed the Blue Sox to tie the score at 8-8. In the bottom of the 8th, Ryne Stanek took the hill for the Blue Sox, and Ahmed stayed in the game at shortstop as a defensive replacement for Tim Anderson. But on the very first play in the inning, Ahmed booted a grounder by Story. Story was safe at first, stole second, and scored on Arenado's tiebreaking single. That gave Story 3 runs scored, Colorado now led 9-8, and they added an insurance run as Arenado stole second, move to third on a groundout by Raimel Tapia, and scored on a single by Daniel Murphy. Bryan Shaw took the mound to close it out for Colorado. He got Hernandez to ground out, but then gave up singles to Maikel Franco and Garcia. That brought Castillo (3-for-3 up to that point) to the plate, and that appeared to be a good matchup for the Blue Sox. But Castillo bounced into a 5-4-3 doubleplay to end the game. For Colorado, both Tapia and Murphy had 3 hits. Colorado leads the all-time series over the Blue Sox 25 games to 16. The Blue Sox, now 32-34 and tied with the Mets for 5th place, head to Cleveland for a 3-game series.

The Colorado Rockies got by the New York (FL) Blue Sox at Coors Field. The
final score was 10 to 8.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Nolan Arenado. He smacked a three-run homer in the 6th inning
and ripped a base-knock which scored a run in the 8th inning. A wild and
woolly affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.
Jake McGee(2-1) allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning, and picked up the
victory. Bryan Shaw earned his 4th save. Ryne Stanek(1-4) was charged with
the loss in relief.
